Where it’s snowing
All winter through
That’s where I want to be
Snowball throwing
That’s what I’ll do
How I’m longing to ski
Through the snow-oh-oh-oh-oh
-Rosemary Clooney, Snow
Dear Friends and Family,
The above song clip is in honor of our very first White Christmas in Vermont. The snow has started falling, and there’s sure to be lots more. But unlike singer Rosemary Clooney, I’m not so sure about washing my hands, face, and hair in it.
This has been a memorable year. My husband Joe and I made a big move from the Northwest all the way to Northern New England. Bouncing around from place to place, we finally moved into a townhouse in downtown Burlington on Labor Day weekend. It is so nice to finally have a home! Although we now live in the most urban part of Vermont, the country is never far away. One of our neighbors has chickens. There is also the world’s largest skunk prowling around the neighborhood.
Speaking of wildlife, we saw a moose while driving through the White Mountains of New Hampshire on our way back from a church service in Saco, ME. We’ve gotten to visit churches all across VT, NH, and ME in order to speak about our work with Chi Alpha and the need for a campus outreach program at UVM. Did you know that the quickest way to Fort Kent, ME from here is to go through Quebec?
Joe and I have been trying to stay healthy and exercise. During the summer we enjoyed bicycling though some beautiful rural areas outside Burlington. Now that it’s gotten colder, Joe has been regularly running the Lake Champlain Bike Trail. The other day he came back with icicles in his goatee. We’ve also started eating Tofu. It’s pretty good!
As the days get darker (and colder) I’ve found myself becoming nostalgic. We miss family and friends, but we are so thankful for the new relationships we are forming here in Vermont. We count you and the rest of our team as one of the ways God has made his love and faithfulness real to us. Have a Merry Christmas full of the grace and joy of the Savior whose birth we celebrate.
- Rachel and Joe
